Michael Jackson Thriller vinyl LP Album

Do you remember when Thriller came out back in, what was it, 1982? Most of you reading this don't remember that, but for those of you who do, it was a pretty cool time in music. MTV had just gotten started and that in itself was just way over the top! CD's where in their infancy and this brings me to the topic of the Thriller album and it's value as a collectible.

First, it's not likely that these albums, even if the shrink wrap is still on, will make you rich. At most you can expect $100.00. Most albums, opened and played but in great shape are going for between $20.00-$50.00. There were just too many produced. However, as a piece of memorabilia, which is what collections are really about, it's priceless!

Thriller was a huge success and it was the last monster success for any artist before CD's took over. This makes it unique, in my opinion and why I think every Michael Jackson collection should have the Thriller album, one of the original 1982 -84 vinyl 33-1/3 rpm lps, proudly displayed

There are a lot of these old records for sale now as folks are cleaning out their attics in hopes of making a few bucks on their "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" albums. The ones who benefit the most are collectors like myself and you! These folks are giving up something very unique, not just a record, but a time period. An American icon. A transitional period in the music indurstry. Pre-AOL....heck it was pre-internet and pre-windows! Collecting is about memories and time gone by and the Thriller album does all of that.

So go ahead people, you keep on cleaning out those old boxes of Michael Jackson merchandise and let us collectors have a go at it! I've never seen a better time to buy "The King of Pop" collectibles. The selection right now is like an open buffet! I doubt if they'll be re-filling this buffet though. Get em while you can!

  1. I worked on the Stan Winston directed video/movie "TOO BAD" back in 97. I ans another makeup artist actually did Micheal Jackson's makeup as the mayor. We shot in Van Nuys for about a month with MJ, and I have only wonderful things to say about him. Anyways, on our last day of filming MJ autographed a MJ fedora to me and autographed my wifes Thriller and Off the Wall LP's. We also used to listen to a classical CD which he also signed to me as well. I'm thinking of selling some of these items...any idea the value? I've done some of my own homework, but I'd love a second opinion. Thanks

  2. I agree totally with whats wrote above, but I am curious about the theory that the ones with the interior artwork upside down are worth a lot of cash.
    Anyone know anything about these?

  5. I found the 1982 Thriller album in an abandoned storage unit. It is the LP in the cover pictured above. The cover is worn at the edges but the album is in good shape and plays! I would sell it! Lynda in North Carolina

  6. A local thrift store was selling a copy of Thriller for $250.00 in their boutique section which seemed a bit steep. This is a fantastic album, but there are just so many out there. I could see the original CD being worth a decent price, or even the 180g Half-Speed Master CBS released about ten years ago, but not the original vinyl.

  10. I have a Thriller album from the '80s, but the album itself is a picture (sorry, can't describe it better than this).... one album side is the thriller cover, the other side is a "casual" photo....

is there any value in these types of albums. It is in its original plastic cover and I don't think it was ever played.

    1. I have 2 of these albums, no wrap on them, just in excellent to mint condition, 1 was never played. The serial? number on them is QE 38112 stereo, 1982 CBS, Inc. Epic label. How do I sell these, do you anyone who may want to buy them and for what price. I am getting older, and my kids will never know what to do with these after I pass. By older, I am 68 years old. My oldest daughter who is 45 bought one of these albums in 1987, the one which wasn't played at all was someone giving me one as a gift. 1. Hello, That is a nice collectible if it's from the first or second year it was pressed. Not really worth a fortune, but you could sell for $20 or so, depending on the pressing, to someone on eBay. I'm not interested myself, I have several, but it's a nice collectible for you to keep or pass on to someone who really wants it for a collection, assuming it's a 1st or 2nd year pressing. Good Luck with it!

    2. Hi there: I have a MJ Thriller album, that has never been opened. Still new. Is this worth a little more.

    3. Always worth a little more unopened with the cellophane still on. If you have a 1982, very much so, but basically there were so many pressed that they aren't worth a lot from a strictly monetary standpoint. However, a 1982 or 1983 still wrapped is a great piece of memorabilia for a fan or collector.

    1. I recommend checking out the "completed listings" on eBay. This will give you a real good idea of what people are willing to pay for your items at the present time. Collectibles such as these fluctuate in price from year to year, even month to month, and eBay's completed listings are always for the last few months. Good Luck!

  18. I had the Thriller album, but it had a white tiger cub pictured inside instead of the orange cub. I can't find that one anywhere anymore. What would've been the value of it? It was opened & had been played several times, but was in good condition.
